Understanding the Insurance Category

Edited

Insurance is one of the most important categories in your account — especially when you need answers fast. Trustworthy keeps your whole insurance portfolio in one secure place, including homeowners, vehicle, life, health, umbrella, disability, long-term care, dental and vision, renters, pet, Medicare or Medicaid, and specialty policies like liability and title.

Trustworthy automatically organizes policies by type, giving you a clear, high-level view of your household coverage — and making it easier to spot gaps or overlaps.

Add Your Insurance

The easiest way to add insurance is to upload a document. You can:

  • Drag and drop files onto your dashboard

  • Choose one of the suggested document types under the lightbulb inside the Insurance category

  • Click + Add in the left-hand navigation

From there, Autopilot processes the document and does its best to identify the policy type, extract key details, recognize the carrier, surface useful dates and reminders, and suggest connections to related people, vehicles, homes, or businesses — so you get organized without typing everything by hand.

Prefer to enter it yourself? Use the + menu to the left of the Insurance category title to create a policy manually and add details step by step.

Adding supporting files — claims, receipts, or related correspondence — rather than a new policy? Open the relevant insurance page and use its Files section to upload directly or create folders.

What Trustworthy Suggests for You

Once information is added, Autopilot organizes the most useful details for each policy. Depending on the policy type, you may see:

  • Policy number, coverage limits, deductible, and premium

  • Effective or renewal dates

  • Policy holders and covered individuals

  • Covered vehicles or property

  • Agent or carrier contact information, and claim phone numbers

It may also recognize and display insurance company logos, customer service numbers, website links, and important dates for reminders. If a company doesn't populate correctly, let us know — it helps us keep improving our recognition library.

Smart Connections

Trustworthy suggests helpful connections whenever it can. For example:

  • Vehicle insurance may connect to insured drivers in Family and the covered vehicle in Property

  • Homeowners insurance may connect to the home in Property

  • Life insurance may connect to the insured person in Family

  • Health insurance may connect to covered family members

  • An insurance carrier may connect to a business in Finance

Ask Chat About Your Coverage

Use Chat to understand your policies and get quick guidance. Try:

  • "Summarize my vehicle insurance"

  • "What does this policy cover?"

  • "I just got in a car accident — what should I do?"

  • "When does this policy renew?"

Files, Notes & Reminders

Upload supporting files, add notes, and set reminders to stay organized. Helpful files include policy documents, ID cards, declaration pages, renewal notices, claim forms, proof of insurance, benefit summaries, and agent contact sheets — especially valuable during emergencies, accidents, medical visits, or claims.

Insurance works best as a living dashboard, not just a storage folder. Chat can help you take stock — ask things like "Is every major asset properly insured?", "Is everyone covered where they need to be?", or "Are there any duplicate or overlapping policies?" And you can set reminders for what you want to revisit, like keeping documents current or reviewing beneficiary designations.
