Understanding the Family Category

Edited

The Family category helps you organize information about the people who matter most to you.

For many members, it's one of the first places they begin building their Trustworthy account because it serves as the home for personal IDs, life records, and other important information tied to specific people.

Family can include:

  • Yourself

  • Your spouse or partner

  • Children

  • Aging parents or in-laws

  • Adult children whose information you still help manage

  • Pets

Each person has their own page where you can store details, documents, notes, reminders, and connections to other information throughout your account.

Store Important IDs and Personal Information

The Family category is the primary place to store identification documents and other personal records.

Examples include:

  • Driver's licenses

  • Passports

  • Social Security cards

  • Global Entry cards

  • School IDs

  • Military IDs

  • Health insurance cards

  • Professional licenses

  • Membership cards

When possible, Trustworthy automatically extracts helpful details such as expiration dates, ID numbers, and issuing authorities. It may also create reminders when documents need to be renewed.

Create Folders for Life Records

Many members use folders within Family to organize important records that belong to a specific person.

Common examples include:

  • School transcripts and diplomas

  • Medical records

  • Immunization records

  • Adoption paperwork

  • Military documents

  • Travel records

  • Personal legal documents

Think of Family as a long-term home for the documents and information that tell a person's story over time.

Use Aliases to Improve Organization

People often appear differently across documents and accounts.

For example:

  • Jennifer Smith

  • Jennifer A. Smith

  • Smith, Jennifer

  • Jenny Smith

Aliases help Trustworthy recognize that these variations refer to the same person.

Trustworthy may create aliases automatically as it analyzes documents, and you can also add aliases manually for things like:

  • Maiden names

  • Previous married names

  • Nicknames

  • Alternate spellings

If an alias is clearly incorrect, you can remove it. Otherwise, it's often best to leave aliases in place because they help Trustworthy organize information more accurately.

Connect Family Members to the Rest of Your Household Information

Family pages can be connected to other information throughout your account, including:

  • Insurance policies

  • Properties

  • Vehicles

  • Financial accounts

  • Healthcare providers

  • Schools

  • Emergency contacts

These "Connections" help create a more complete picture of your household and make information easier to find when you need it.

You can also ask Chat questions about family members and related information. For example:

  • "When does my passport expire?"

  • "What's my insurance member ID?"

  • "Who is listed as my emergency contact?"

Supporting Children and Young Adults

Many families use Trustworthy to gradually help children and young adults take greater responsibility for their own information.

With collaboration features, parents can choose to share access to items such as:

  • IDs

  • Insurance cards

  • Travel documents

  • Passwords

  • Household information

This can help younger family members build good organizational habits while still allowing parents to maintain appropriate oversight.

Marriage and Relationship Records

If you upload a marriage certificate or marriage license, Trustworthy may create a Marriage page within Family.

These pages can help organize relationship-related documents such as:

  • Marriage certificates

  • Prenuptial agreements

  • Name change documents

  • Divorce or dissolution paperwork

A Flexible Approach

There is no single "right" way to organize your Family category.

Some members keep only IDs and basic personal information there. Others create folders for medical histories, education records, travel documents, and life events.

The goal is simply to create an organized, secure place for the people and information that matter most.
